The Balladeer's Best: "Ol' Glory" by JJ Grey and Mofro
So the Balladeer has got this little playlist he wants to share with you all. He calls it The Balladeer's Best. Lame, I know. I've been working with him to come up with a catchier name, but he's a stubborn buck. Regardless, the #music on this playlist is solid: a mix of funk, blues, R and B, rap and all kinds of other up-tempo cross-genres that help get him hyped before he performs. Each of these songs, through their general vibe or their particular lyrics and musicality, has in some way informed and shaped The Ballad of Lumber Jackson. I'll be sharing songs from this playlist as another opportunity to get inside that crazy deer's head.
This week's song is "Ol' Glory" by #JJGreyandMofro. This blues-inspired, neo-funk track always gets the Balladeer's heart rate going, particularly the line, "In a heartbeat, worlds are born. In a heartbeat, worlds collide." A heartbeat, after all, is in many ways a unit of time. And you know how the Balladeer feels about all of that.
